A Taste of Garlic

That was the week….

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in FranceEvery Tuesday I intend to do a quick review of some of the posts from the last week that have made me smile, made me chuckle or, even…. just made me think.

Some of these you may have seen yourselves.

And some of them you may have missed.

I don’t think of these in any competitive sense at all.

This isn’t a top-ten listing.

They’re merely the posts that have stuck in my head.

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France1). Now, I’ve not yet reviewed Cooking in France but it can’t be too long before I do so!

If only because of the simple and clean recipes like this wonderful Crab and Vegetable Linguine.

Sometimes, less is more.

Sometimes I can just go with someone who says.. “I’ll try make this sweet and simple because I can’t stand wanky food blogs. Seriously, it’s just food people.”

My philosophy in a sentence!

Janelle – I don’t think it’ll be long before I’m over yours to review your blog – you couldn’t get in some 2CV posts before I arrive, could you? Just so I’ve got something to waffle on about whilst enjoying your wonderful food!

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France2). For her gorgeous photos of Autumn in the Parc de Sceaux I really do have to mention Leesa from News from France.

Leesa always seems to capture a part of Paris that I’ve never seen.

The colours….

The light….

If I didn’t live here, I’d have to move!

Thanks Leesa for your seeing eye.

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France3). The fabulous Gigi at French Windows brings us a glimpse of the other side of life in France (it’s not all sitting round the swimming pool drinking Rosé, you know!) with her post called Hot!

The post is largely about… “living on a council housing estate in an area euphemistically deemed sensitive” and parking.

Yes, there’s a fair bit about parking in the post.

There also a bit about Gigi… “fantasizing about Gérard Depardieu begging me…” but I’ll skip over that smut!

There’s also (just for the ladies) a picture of a fireman with no shirt on!

Way to go, Gigi! Way to go!

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France4). Leeann, at Fabulously French, posted some lovely photos of her holiday in Provence.

La Belle Provence is a riot of gorgeous images.

Not least of all, a wonderful photo of the ultimate speed machine, Yes… a Velosolex!

And also, a beautiful painting of that most quintessentially French of all French things… none other than a Citroen 2CV!

And it blue!

And, as we all know, the blue ones go faster!

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France5). And there was great news from Piglet at Piglet in France.

Yes, Piglet (and Mr Piglet) are expecting! We’re not sure if it’s A Little Piglet or A Little Piggie? but, whichever flavour it is, it’s certainly cause for celebration!

As Merewoman put it (and her comment would win the Award for the Best Comment of the Week, if only we had one)… “Well done, Mr and Mrs Piglet! Here’s to the patter of tiny trotters.”

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France

OK – now all that stuff is out of the way, let’s get on to the really important stuff…

Of course, it’s Awards Time!

And, I am proud to announce a new winner of the Blog of the Week Award!

This is awarded to the Blog post that has tickled my fancy the most during the past seven days.

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in FranceThis week’s Blog of the Week has been won by Vera at Snippets from our Smallholding in France.

You are always guaranteed a good read at Snippets from our Smallholding in France and Sunday’s was a typically wonderful one.

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in FranceFor, not just content with describing her wonderful life in Labartere, Vera treated us to some XXX piggie porno smut!

And on a Sunday too!

I can’t tell you how much it made my day to come back from the Boulangerie to find… “Maxy-boy! On board Tess! Really on board. As in almost lying full length on top of her!”

Simple things for simple minds perhaps but, isn’t that the perfect life in rural France post theme?

Who needs all those posts about mushrooms, nuns in lingerie and Citroen 2CVs?

If you’re heading over that way, why not take a look at Nudey Girls and a Boy or Just a Day….. Both excellent posts (as, indeed, are all of Vera’s posts!)

Vera, if you’d like to place your award on your blog sidebar just email me and I’ll send you the code.

Now for the rest of the awards….

There was a little rash of 5 Year Blogiversaries this week (and how strange is that?)….

Stu at A Slice of ExPat(é), Walt at WCS and Amy at C’est la me…… congratulations once again for slogging it out for the last five years.

I know that it’s a hard job but, believe me, someone’s got to do it!

If you each think of how much happiness you’ve brought people over the last five years and then multiply that by three (which makes an awful lot of happiness), then the three of you ought to be very, very proud of yourselves!

And so, onto the REALLY important stuff!

The Wonderful Mushroom Post of the Week Award has to go to Me at www.BretonDiary.com for my wonderful Salade des Ceps (all hand picked by me), to Lee at PYRÉNÉES ADVENTURE (I know that I haven’t reviewed his blog yet but, with mushrooms like those, it can’t be long!) for his post about Shrooms, Eva at I love Aquitaine who went Mushroom hunting in her Garden and, finally, to Stu at A Slice of Ex-Pat(é) for his wonderfully foodalicious post about Ceps! Anyone who can eat so many Ceps and tweet about the experience with such passion must be a true Frenchman (even if was was born in that country called Yorkshire!)

Yes, they all get it! And anyone who wants to complain about me sneaking my little blog in there; I’ll have you know that I’ve consulted with my lawyers and I’ve studied the rule book at length and it doesn’t say anything at all about that! The lawyers just gave me a large bill and asked for GPS co-ordinates for all “mes petits coins!”

The Award for My What A Lot of Wood You’ve Got! goes to Rosalyn at An English Rose in France for her post about Wood.

And that certainly is a lot of wood! And isn’t it so nice seeing all the family helping out and obviously having so much fun! Not sure what the old Geezer in the Aston Villa shirt was doing? Probably just trying to take his mind of the football!

This week’s Award for Men Peeing in Public goes to the very talented Adrian Moore (a man who certainly knows his Brussels Sprouts from his Baked Beans) at Adrian Moore (where else?) for This is hilarious (names withheld to protect the guilty):

An absolute classic and, before you ask… I have an alibi, what about you?

The Award for the Newest Kiwi in Town goes to Frances at To the ends of the Earth who has been in Paris for about a month and seems to be getting the hang of things, judging from The nicer side of humanity. Good for you, Frances! Oh, and nice blog, by the way.

The Philosophical Statement of the Week Award goes to MJ at An American Mum in Paris for An Accurate Summary.

Yup… two bits of graffiti which, together, seem to sum up life in its entirety. An American Mum in Paris doesn’t seem to have been ranting as much as usual recently; either she’s ill or she’s saving it all up for one great big Mega-Rant! I do so hope it’s the latter!

The First Time Buying Mushrooms at the Market Award goes to Tuula at Le Petit France Blog for her post Le Petit Beat : Orange Chocolates and Yellow Girolles.

Tuula, looks like you’ve bought some beautiful Girolles. Give them a sniff; they smell like apricots, don’t they? And they taste divine! Why not give Cepes a go next time?

Rant of the Week Award goes to Nicole at A British Expat in Nice for the strangely titled… Gah

Obviously, Nicole isn’t in Nice any more but it was such a nice rant that I decided to ignore the slight geographical ambiguity.

Although it doesn’t get won very often, the Citroen 2CV made out of Apples Award does get won, this week, by Ann at Life in the Malepère for her post all about the Foire de la Pomme du Vin, du Riz.

Well done Ann. I’ve always said that 2CVs are good enough to eat and that one certainly is!

And last (but certainly not least), Mrs A Taste of Garlic has just asked me why she never wins an award.

I told her… “My sweetie, you haven’t got a blog and anyway, why would you need an award – you’ve got me!”

For some reason she clouted me round the head with a frying pan and then demanded that I set up a blog for her (watch this space.)

So, I’ve decided to give her the Award for Making the Sun Shine Every Day for Me! for her diligent efforts in washing my Long Johns (Union Suit for those of an American persuasion) and never complaining (or, at least, not too vocally) about the stains!

And, just so she doesn’t take the frying pan to me again, I’m also awarding her the My Darling, When You Smile at Me…. My Heart Stops Beating and Sometimes I Forget to Breathe Award!

Both well deserved awards and ones that none of the rest of you are ever likely to win!

All the best

Fun stuff, Keith! And I have to hurry away now because I want to see this: “There’s also (just for the ladies) a picture of a fireman with no shirt on!”

And gay men. Just sayin’. ;-)

Wow, lots to catch up on! Thanks again for my blogiversary wishes :)

  • By Gigi, October 20, 2010 @ 9:21 pm

So it’s the topless fireman that sent all those people to my blog??? Well, I suppose it’s more interesting than a piccy of me, parking…not topless, of course…

  • By Keith Eckstein, October 21, 2010 @ 4:49 pm

Gigi – let this be a lesson and next post, have a picture of you parking (parking a 2CV would be good – everyone likes those) dressed in a similar manner to your fireman!

Hope all is well with you…

    All the best

    Keith

Well, I would, Keith but the suspension’s not what it was, I’m afraid…:-)
