A Taste of Garlic

That was the week…

that was the week That was the week... because we all love reading blogs about life in FranceEvery Tuesday I intend to do a quick review of some of the posts from the last week that have made me smile, made me chuckle or, even…. just made me think.

Some of these you may have seen yourselves.

And some of them you may have missed.

I don’t think of these in any competitive sense at all.

This isn’t a top-ten listing.

They’re merely the posts that have stuck in my head.

that was the week That was the week... because we all love reading blogs about life in France1).  Top of the pile this week is Ann Mah at Ann Mah (where else?) for her brilliant post answering our questions on Aveyron.

This, in a way (in my opinion, anyway), is an example of the perfect post….

Lovely photos, well chosen prose and finished of with Steak and Cheesy Potatoes!

In my book, it’s not a post unless there’s a dollop of Cheesy Potatoes in there somewhere!

Ann, if only you’d have managed to squeeze in a 2CV (a blue one, by preference) somewhere, you’d be Blog of the Week!

Perhaps next time?

that was the week That was the week... because we all love reading blogs about life in France2).  What a joy it was to go to Our French Garden in the Beautiful Dordogne to take a look At the Market.

I’ve got to say it (before anyone else does) Rob, these are Brilliant Photos!

This, in a way (in my opinion, anyway), is an example of the perfect post….

Fantastic photos, loads of food and finished of with a couple of bottles of wine!

In my book, it’s not a post unless there’s a couple of bottles of wine in there somewhere!

Rob, if only you’d have managed to squeeze in a 2CV (perhaps a blue one, they go faster!) somewhere, you’d be Blog of the Week!

that was the week That was the week... because we all love reading blogs about life in France3).  Now, I’m not just mentioning Karin at An Alien Parisienne just because she mentioned me, mid-rant in her post about Ghetto Living in Paris.  I do have to say, however, that being mentioned mid-rant is not such a new experience for me!

And what was Karin ranting about?

Well, you know.. the usual stuff; Paris, people, things – stuff like that!

And looking at Karin’s garden, no wonder she’s so tired and irritable!

I mean, how does she find time to do all the weeding and upkeep?

This, in a way (in my opinion, anyway), is an example of the perfect post….

Photos, a garden full of edible plants and finished of with a bluddy good rant!

In my book, it’s not a post unless there’s a bluddy good rant in there somewhere!

Karin, if only you’d have managed to talk a bit about Lingerie (lingerie wearing Nuns would have been nice!) somehow, you’d be Blog of the Week!

that was the week That was the week... because we all love reading blogs about life in France4).  Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, along comes Fly in the web at French Leave with an article entitled… If you go down to the woods today…

And guess what?  Yes, it’s all about mushrooms!

And, to cap it all, it’s got a picture of a Phallus impudicus (that’s stinkhorn to the plebs) as well!

Now, what more could you want in a blog post other than sensible talk about mushrooms and a picture of a stinkhorn?

I think that, in a way (in my opinion, anyway), this is the epitome of the perfect post….

Wise words about mushrooms written by someone who knows what she’s talking about and a picture of a stinkhorn!

In my book, it’s not a post unless there’s a wild mushroom poking up somewhere!

Fly in the Web, you’ll never know how closely  you missed out on being Blog of the Week!  If only you’d managed to find a few Trompets des Morts?

that was the week That was the week... because we all love reading blogs about life in France5).  Then again, Jilly at Menton Daily Photo almost got the Blog of the Week Award.  Her last few posts have been lovely.  Starting with Vincent through to Dining in the Rain.

I love these sorts of posts – short, succinct and great photos…

I sometimes wonder if, in a way (in my opinion, anyway), these are the best sort of posts….

A few words, a well framed photo and always (at least with Jilly’s posts), a touch of mystery!

In my book, it’s not a post unless there’s a touch of mystery about it!

Jilly, a word of advice, you’ll need to get the hang of including a 2CV in your posts if you ever want to win the Blog of the Week Award!

that was the week That was the week... because we all love reading blogs about life in France

OK – now all that stuff is out of the way, let’s get on to the really important stuff…

Of course, it’s Awards Time!

And, I am proud to announce a new winner of the Blog of the Week Award!

This is awarded to the Blog post that has tickled my fancy the most during the past seven days.

that was the week That was the week... because we all love reading blogs about life in France

Working on the premise that If I award her the Blog of the Week Award, that will automatically disbar her from any other awards for quite a few weeks (I think? I will have to check in the rule book to make sure) thus making my life a little easier…

Thus, this week’s Blog of the Week has been won by Sara Louise from Sara in Le Petit Village.

that was the week That was the week... because we all love reading blogs about life in FranceSara Louise runs an entrancingly chaotic blog about her life in a small village somewhere in deepest Provence.

In no way is this a sympathy award but I ought to mention that Sara Louise has been ill recently!

Nothing life threatening – just tonsillitis!

Just enough to make her feel Sick and Icky.

I’m was going to suggest that she stops drinking out of wet glasses but if she’s ill perhaps she deserves a little drop of something?

Sara Louise, if you’d like to place your award on your blog sidebar just email me and I’ll send you the code.

Now for the rest of the awards….

On the Blogiversay Award front we have a real mixed package this week….

Firstly, Sarah at St. Bloggie de Riviera has been at it now for five long years!  Her Blogiversary was on the 4th of October.

Paris Daily Porn and Galloping Gourmets have both been filling the Blogosphere for the last year.

Little Brown Pen has been scribbling away for two years.

And both The Duchess of Earl and La Ferme de Sourrou have been making our lives interesting since 2006!

Well done to all of you – they tell me it all starts getting easier when you get into double figures!

An especially large Welcome back to Blogging Award! goes to Kim (or Kim-bear-lay) at Je ne regrette rein.

Kim, we’ve missed you during the summer.

I, for one (and no doubt one of many), am glad that you’re back…. “blathering on about your petite adventures.” I hope The Mung has cleared up!

Best Potty Post of the Week Award gets shared between Beth Arnold’s brilliant Letter from Paris (yes, Beth; I will get round to doing a review one of these days) for her Parisian Outhouse and the always amusing Candy Froggie at Candy Froggie’s Lair for Missing the Target! Both excellent posts and how could I choose between them?

The rather obscure Award for a post from a blog that really doesn’t belong here – not being a Life in France Type Blog – but we’ll mention it anyway! goes to Mike and Sally at Strattons Farm for their post about A Giant Puffball!

I used to work with Mike back in the bad old days before we both saw the light and emigrated.  Mike ended up in Canada and I ended up in rural Brittany – both a million miles away from the City!

The Two Geezers sat at a Table Award goes to Virginia from Paris Through My Lens. I’ve got a sneaky feeling that she’s won that award before? I’ll have to check through the records.

Amber at Travelling Amber wins the Obligatory Pregnancy Post where I Fish for Compliments Award for her post called Baby on Board. Note the… “freshly coiffed hair, make-up and polished shoes.” She was always going to win that award, wasn’t she?

Hey, Amber. I’ve just realised! You won Rant of the Week Award last week, didn’t you? Two awards in two weeks! You’re really getting rather good at all this, aren’t you?

The Pretty Painting of the Week Award goes to Tommo at Zut Alors! for Back Lane which is all about a pretty painting of a back lane. Now, why am I surprised that that actually makes so much sense?

The I bet you never thought you’d see a duck wearing a tie Award goes (this week, at least) to Penny at Soup du Jour for her post about the Retour des Alpages.

You know? I’d almost forgotten about The Village That Time Forgot Award that we’ve been using to prop open the window in the outhouse. It (suitably cleaned and polished) goes to The Walls in France for their great post taking us Back in time…

And, you know what? That’s all for this week. If you haven’t entered out wonderful competition, now is YOUR LAST CHANCE!

The competition closes at midnight tonight so, if you haven’t had a go – why not give it your best?

All the best

Well I’m honored. I’m not sure if you’ve given me the award because I’ve been sick or you’re just sick of me, but either way, I’ll take it :-)

“Karin, if only you’d have managed to talk a bit about Lingerie (lingerie wearing Nuns would have been nice!) somehow, you’d be Blog of the Week!”

Well goshdarnit, too bad there weren’t any nuns in the ‘hood shopping for their intimates this past week, else I could have accomodated. ;-)

Thanks for highlighting the rant, Keith, and any way I can promote this site is a good way, methinks. :) Thank you for the shout-out!

P.S. Keith — just so you know, your links for the Ann Mah blog are directing to another site.

    Hi Keith

Thanks for the anniversary mention. I thought of you yesterday – I was going round a roundabout and saw a blue 2CV waiting at one of the roads. It was a sky blue one. I would’ve taken a photo but thought it might endanger life if I did as I can never remember how the camera thing on my phone works and would have been arrested for trying and ended up at the gendarmerie. But not for ranting. :)

  • By amber, October 12, 2010 @ 8:42 am

Ooh Sarah, but last week Keith promised big awards for the blogger that ends up in the Gendarmerie first.. it would have been worth a shot!
I loved Karin’s post this week as well. Keith, i’m starting to think you’ve got great taste! Two awards in two weeks.. I’m just speechless! I’m not sure i’ll be able to handle the pressure.. blogging anxiety is starting to settle in..
Thanks again for your Tuesday round up though. It’s something that I always look foward to reading. Good for a laugh and lots of new reads!

Well,I won my bet with myself.
I reckoned that there could be only one person who would not only recognise phallus impudicus…but would also mention it!
I’m off to have open the bottle which was the prize…

  • By Paris Paul, October 12, 2010 @ 7:41 pm

Keith! I know! I’m always trying to get Karin to talk about nun’s underwear and she never does. Hopefully your chastising will provide the impetus necessary.

  • By Keith Eckstein, October 13, 2010 @ 7:28 am

Paul – You’ll just have to try harder!

Actually, I ‘m more interested in Nun’s wearing lingerie as opposed to their normal underwear.

    All the best

    Kwith

  • By Keith Eckstein, October 13, 2010 @ 7:32 am

Karin – Cheers for this – general cock-ups all round, today!

  • By Roz, October 13, 2010 @ 3:20 pm

I’m going to make my own awards, anyone want one.
