A Taste of Garlic

That was the week….

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in FranceEvery Tuesday I intend to do a quick review of some of the posts from the last week that have made me smile, made me chuckle or, even…. just made me think.

Some of these you may have seen yourselves.

And some of them you may have missed.

I don’t think of these in any competitive sense at all.

This isn’t a top-ten listing.

They’re merely the posts that have stuck in my head.

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France1). All Things French gets a mention this week because of the beautiful post about the Palette of Provence.

I loves the photos that Dianne describes as… “are like an artists palette – ochre, sienna, duck-egg blue, sunflower yellow. And different hues that I can’t even describe…..”

As the nights draw in and the mornings start cold here in my little part of rural Brittany, it’s lovely to be taken to somewhere a little bit warmer – even if it’s just for the most fleeting visit.

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France2). And how could I not mention Andy at Prunings from the Vines after he had taken the time to detail his First Ride on his Velosolex 3800?

Doesn’t she look sleek?

Doesn’t she look speedy?

Now, not a lot of people know this but… with Velosolexes, the black ones go fastest!

Andy has wisely chosen not one but two of these sexy beasts and I impatiently look forward to reading about Evel Knievel exploits in the very near future!

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France3). Lucy, at Box Elder, treated us, as usual, to some fantastic photos of her September Meanderings.

Lucy’s posts always make me think…

I can spend ages just looking at the photos and dreaming…

As one of the commenter says… “wonderful photos and thoughtful words on the deep pleasures of the seasons.”

I can’t sum up Lucy’s blog any better than that!

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France4). Ksam, the blogger formerly known as Samdebretagne, at Totally Frenched Out gets lucky witht the weather (and some cheap train tickets) and spends the weekend with C in Noirmoutier getting her Batteries: recharged!

As Ksam says… “It was a fantastic weekend, full of sun, sand, seafood and se….wait a minute, this is a family-friendly blog. We’ll just leave it at me feeling relaxed and refreshed after all the driving and long hours of last week. that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France

I think she must be talking about those incredibly sexy and attractive Moules Frites that I am lusting over?

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France5). An unforgotten romance that wouldn’t be traded for a million dollars was the story behind the Paris Pilgrimages at Soar-Dream-France on Saturday.

I love the way that, sometimes, photographs can take you back in time and reveal emotions that have be put to one side.

I love the way that Laury’s posts always make me think and stretch me, in some indefinable way.

There always seems to be a sense of mystery about the posts on Soar-Dream-France; a sense of “I’ve been there” when in fact I never have?

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in France

OK – now all that stuff is out of the way, let’s get on to the really important stuff…

Of course, it’s Awards Time!

And, for only the third time in the history of things historic, I am proud to announce a Blog of the Week Award!

This is awarded to the Blog post that has tickled my fancy the most during the past seven days.

that was the week That was the week…. because we all love reading blogs about life in FranceI was in a bit of a pickle about which blog I was going to choose to be this week’s Blog of the Week.

There were three that I couldn’t choose between but, on Monday morning I spotted an additional post that gave me a clear winner.

Ditdit in France is a blog that I follow religiously and I’ve spent rather a lot of time looking at the wooden face which perfectly describes How I Feel when standing in lines in crowded places!

The post that clinched my decision, though, was Monday’s review of the Block Party.

When I’ve not been busy getting stressed when standing in lines in crowded places, I’ve been lusting over that Jambonneau d’Aveyron!

Meredith, if you’d like to place your award on your blog sidebar just email me and I’ll send you the code.

Now for the rest of the awards….

There were no 7 year Franciversary Awards this week but I did spot a 3 year Franciversary Award winner in Michele at Michele’s Life in Franglais and also a 1 year Franciversary Award winner in Sara Louise at the often mentioned Sara in Le Petit Village.

Congratulations to both of you; keep working at it and perhaps, one day, you’ll catch up Ksam and MilkJam who won their awards last week?

There was no Bare Botty of the Week Award this week; mainly because no one bared their botty!

Or, if they did, they didn’t mention it on their blog?

So, in its place, I’ll have to offer the similar (but not quite the same), Best Bared Boobs Award to Delana at Du Jour.

I do admit that you do have to view the photo full size and then squint a bit in order to make out the bared boobs but, believe me, they’re there.

The Award for Eating your Subjects happily doesn’t go to a member of a royal family but instead is won by Catherine at The Tramizal Diary for her post on Cannibals?

All I can say, Catherine, is it’s a good thing that you’ve not been painting portraits recently!

The What a Bloody Sensible Idea Award! goes, without hesitation, to Amy at God, I Love Paris for her post about… Just a Nice Little Treat at the end of the Day.

God, I just love nice little treats at the end of the day!

Right, children; could you avert your eyes now…

Adults, could you ensure that the children have all averted their eyes?

Did you know that Retifism (named after Nicolas-Edme Rétif, called Rétif de la Bretonne, a French novelist), is the medical word for shoe (or in this case boot) fetishism?

In fact, in an article by The Independent (so it must be true), High Heels are the world’s no1 fetish!

Which brings me nicely to Candy Froggie’s exploits this week at Candy Froggie’s Lair.

Candy Froggie claims that… “I’m not obsessed with boots, I’m just hmm, ermm, I get some kind of detached interest in them!”

Personally, I think that she might be just a little bit too attached to that “kind of detached interest?”

Moving swiftly on (to less fetishistic things, one hopes)….

Kristi Anderson at The American Frog deserves an Award for mentioning Mushrooms in a Blog Post for her post called… Where oh where are the mushrooms?

I suppose that it would be inappropriate to mention that I have a slight fetish about mushrooms?

Finally; I think that Poulette deserves an award for her post about Evening Classes.

I can’t think what to call the award so I’ll just have to name it The Ambiguous Award for Something Ambiguous!

She’ll have to share it with Cheeky Lemur whose post called Four Seasons in One Day was vaguely about Snuggly Argyle Jumpers. I didn’t look too closely though, in case I revealed yet another fetish I’d never heard of before!

All the best

    Merci Keith :-)

  • By ksam, September 28, 2010 @ 7:31 am

I love these Tuesday posts, thanks Keith!

  • By Keith Eckstein, September 28, 2010 @ 8:42 am

    Sam

I love doing them! Sounds like you had a wonderful time last weekend – were those moules as good as they looked?

    All the best

De rien – mad woman of Provence!

  • By Poulette, September 28, 2010 @ 9:21 am

Let me know when i write something unambiguous, maybe i will need an award for that!!

  • By Sarah, September 28, 2010 @ 11:10 am

Well I award myself the most controversial post (and had to take it down) which attracted so much attention my page views rocketed by 800%!! :)

  • By Keith Eckstein, September 28, 2010 @ 11:18 am

Poulette – it wasn’t the ambiguity in your post that you got the award for, it was more that I couldn’t think of a suitable title for your award.

    All the best (and congrats)

    Keith

Sarah – I must have missed that post. I did, as usual, scour St. Bloggie de Riviera for a suitably controversial post but all I can remember finding wa a restaurant review where you didn’t chuck the plates at the Chef and another one about plaster and not becoming Catholic.

I shall have to have a little hunt through the Google cache to see if I can find the post you pulled?

    Was it really naughty?

Don’t you feel, upon reflection, that you should re-publish it?

All the best (and waiting impatiently)

    Keith

Hi Keith, you did see it, you left a comment to the effect I’d have to do better than that to get the rant of the week award. Remember? It was about a letter I got from the local parents association where they blew themselves up cos they were no longer the big kid on the block. :)

  • By Andy Simpson, September 29, 2010 @ 4:06 pm

Thanks for the support Keith, very much appreciated. My blog doesn’t get anything like the interest yours does but it is always nice to see a few more hits after exposure on your site. I must try harder! Incidentally, you are wrong about the Wolves, but spot on with the music……..

  • By Keith Eckstein, September 29, 2010 @ 5:14 pm

Yes, Sarah – it’s all coming back now.

Why did you pull it; the internet needs more ranty blog posts (in my humble opinion it’s what the internet was invented for?)

  • By Keith Eckstein, September 29, 2010 @ 5:17 pm

Andy – I love your loyalty to your football team.

I know, all too well, how hard it is to be positive when your football team is relying on goal difference to keep it out of the relegation zone!

After all, I am a Spurs supporter!

    All the best

    Keith

P.S. Still working on getting a Velosolex – I’ll challenge you to a race when I’ve managed to get one!

  • By Andy Simpson, September 30, 2010 @ 8:32 am

An explanatory post on the Wolves is due. A dull Man U first half resulted in my turning over for Spurs second half last night. What a half too! I like what “Harry” has done there.

I have gone on a diet in an attempt to improve the power to weight ratio on the Velosolex in anticipation of the race. Boys and there toys uh!

New site presentation looks excellent by the way

    Andy

  • By Keith Eckstein, September 30, 2010 @ 9:40 am

Andy – I haven’t even got a Velosolex yet but I am already thinking about the possibilities of getting an expansion chamber and even making some sort of supercharger out of a 6volt VW beetle starter motor!

If you’re going to cheat and lose weight, I may just have to have a limb amputated in response!

Glad you like the site re-vamp – plenty of new things to be added over the next month or so.

    All the best

    Keith

  • By Keith Eckstein, September 30, 2010 @ 11:26 am

And what I meant to add was… “An explanatory post on the Wolves?”

Is it possible to explain Wolves?

  • By Sarah Hague, October 1, 2010 @ 9:59 am

Keith, I’ll put it back up sometime, but it was attracting too much abuse and attention in my insular village. To calm things down so I could still buy bread without being spat upon, I took it down temporarily.
Writing in my own name has its disadvantages sometimes… :)

  • By Keith Eckstein, October 1, 2010 @ 10:33 am

So you followed it up with a post about all the low down village gossip?

    Way to go, girl!

    All the best

    Keith
