That was the week….
Every Tuesday I intend to do a quick review of some of the posts from the last week that have made me smile, made me chuckle or, even…. just made me think.
Some of these you may have seen yourselves.
And some of them you may have missed.
I don’t think of these in any competitive sense at all.
This isn’t a top-ten listing.
They’re merely the posts that have stuck in my head.
1). I’ve still to review Frogsmoke for A Taste of Garlic but I feel that it’s worth bringing to your attention the post on Witness to an Execution.
I ought to warn you that the photos shown in this post are graphic and very haunting.
However, they do tell part of the story that war films and the general media often overlook.
Visit the Time Magazine source of the photos but, be aware, it might be an idea to pour a stiff drink first!
2). And, talking of Crêpes (I know we weren’t but we should be and we will be from now on…), Paris Through My Lens had a lovely post which featured a lovely girl making a lovely Crêpe.
Now, what could be more French than that?
Apart from, of course, a Blue 2CV!
The one thing that I can’t understand is why Virginia waiting until she was a grandmother before trying Nutella? Obviously a victim of a seriously mis-spent childhood!
3). Still on the subject of Crêpes (it’s all starting to come together now!), Owen at Magic Lantern Show visited The Ultimate Crêperie and wrote a post about it.
There aren’t any 2CVs in the post (blue or otherwise) but there is rather a nice little black car that looks a bit like a 2CV with a spare engine in the boot!
I do have to admit that I do envy Owen for his… “truffle crêpe and the foie gras ice cream!”
4).Maybe not Crêpes but near enough?
Over at French Country Challenge the two girls have been foraging.
Some very nice small Ceps and Bolets Oranges (Leccinum aurantiacum). I happen to be allergic to Bolets Oranges that are larger than four inches.
They make me go to the toilet both ends at the same time!
I’m fine with the smaller ones though?
And my… don’t those hazelnuts look tasty?
5).One and One = 4 (another blog I need to review really rather soon!) summed up my feelings (or, at least, the printable ones) in her post Another School Year.
But, whereas Morgane was Grumpy and Stressed because she was going back to school (she is a teacher), I was Grumpy and Stressed because, just seconds after delivering the FourteenYearold to school on the first day of the new school year, he ran back to the car exclaiming “A mistake! I don’t start until tomorrow!”
Personally, I think the little blighters should go back to school at the end of July!
They’d probably have to pay the teachers triple pay, though? And supply them with lots of valium!
OK – now all that stuff is out of the way, let’s get on to the really important stuff…
Of course, it’s Awards Time!
The Strangest Strange Post I’ve Seen All Week Award goes to Days on the Claise for La Main Jaune.
I suppose what made this post stand out for me (apart from the overwhelming strangeness which is always something I find attractive) was that the Yellow Hand has got a 2CV driving down it!
And it’s in first place!
They know their stuff, these French Sculptors, don’t they!
The Carrot Cake Salesman of the Week Award goes to Poulette – mainly because she was the only one employed as a Carrot Cake salesman last week.
Come on guys, I think that Poulette is on commission so let’s all head down to Cafe Sesame and help her out?
Candy Froggie gets the award for spending all summer in a Hobbit House with no kitchen. This is a special award that only applies to Hobbit Houses with No Kitchens in Beautiful Brittany!
I couldn’t think of a suitable award for Sara in Le Petit Village.
She hadn’t really done anything crazy enough to be awarded the Crazy Mad Woman of the Week Award so I decided to create, in her honour, The Award for Being Sara Louise!
Obviously, it will be rather interesting to see if anyone tries to wrest that award away from SL!
Bugger me!
I’ve only just noticed!
Well, only one thing for it!
I’ll just have to give Sara Louise another award! This time it’s the Award for Sneakily (and rather cunningly) Changing My Blog Name When Nobody Was Watching!
That award obviously goes to Sara & Le Petit Village!
I’m going to have to share The Award for the Prettiest Picture of the Week between Blu at Blu’s Vues (her post on Everyday Beauty is poetic as well as pretty!) and Dianne at All Things French – her picture of chairs and tables and shady nooks made me want to head off over there, sit myself down with a nice glass of Ricard and let the world pass me by……
I’ve decided to create a new award for people who don’t live in France but still find things to blog about….
This week the From The Old Country Award for Outstanding Blogging gets shared between Anne at Anne in Oxfordshire who managed to blog whilst enjoying herself with Laury (the Queen of the Pink Overalls) at Soar-Dream France and Molly Potter at Just Pleasantly Floundering Around for, well… Just pleasantly floundering around!
By the way (and this really has nothing to do with any awards but I did want to mention it before I forget – my memory’s not what it used to be. I start talking about something and then I forget what I was going to say and by the time I remember it the conversation has moved on and everyone thinks I’m strange if)…….
Now, where was I? See what I mean? Oh yes, I remember… If you Google a lot of hot pink overalls then Laury comes out in top spot but (and this is really rather interesting….) if you Google pink overall and hot in France it’s Corey Amaro at Tongue in Cheek who comes top of the list (out of 9,170,000 results!)
The really really strange thing is that if you Google hot and pink in France (and I do admit that I was hoping for something rather sultry and Not Safe For Work here!), who do we see in third place but… Lovely Leesa from News From France!
And then, if you did happen to do a Google search on a rather naughty blogger in France, not that you ever would – I mean, not personally. Someone else might and, if they did, they might be surprised to find that Sarah at St. Bloggie de Rivierre gets top spot!
I’m not sure what any of this means but it does concern me in a strange way that I can’t really put my finger on.
I’m rambling again, aren’t I?
I think it might be time for my medicine?
Nurse…. A bucket of Ricard and a large glass, please!
All the best

They can try and wrestle my award from my cold, dead hands
And I’m very sneaky…
By Keith Eckstein, September 7, 2010 @ 6:33 pm
I know you’re sneaky, SL! – You’re a woman!
I think I’m going to award The Award for Being Sara Louise! to someone else just to spite you!
Mind you, your clever insertion of a 2CV wedding car into today’s post almost guarantees you a place in next Tuesday’s awards, doesn’t it? How hard was it to persuade Honey B that he’d be better off in a 2CV rather than the Daimler he’d always dreamed of?
There really are no depths that some people will sink to just to grab a Tuesday award! I don’t know whether to admire you or be very scared?
I think a bit of both might be in order?
All the best
Keith

I wish i was on commission. I’ve had to stop consuming today due to expanding numbers on scales. But i’ll be back in business shortly

That’s difficult top spot to believe, Keith. Naughty, me? I’m quite proud actually…
By Keith Eckstein, September 8, 2010 @ 9:59 am
It’s true, Sarah.
I’ve just done the query again and you come top.
I only come 6th for http://www.bretondiary.com/general/031209-naughty-knickers-in-redon.html and 9th for this post!
You should feel proud! Congratulations!
All the best

I sure get a lot of mileage out of these hot pink overalls Keith! Am shocked that I would come out on top of anything “googled”! It still all makes me chuckle.
