Le Franco Phoney - Rhône-Alpes
Le Franco Phoney is April Hollands’ blog about her life in the Rhône Alpes.
April is an Australian who loves (according to her About page), Snow-based activities (skiing, snowboarding, telemarking etc.); writing; learning new stuff every week; photography; music.
She admits to also quite liking Cow-watching; cheese; chocolate; chatting to strangers in English or French (if they can put up with my bad French); swimming and not liking… Glossy magazines (terrible content); gossip; olives; techno music; intolerance (unless related to techno music etc.); double standards (apart from my double standard about intolerance).
April’s posts range from little articles about day today life in the Savoyarde, where farming and cheesemaking rule all year ’round to almost tourist type articles as she explores the rest of France.
April brings a fresh bubbly approach to her blog and I suppose an unsurprising blog article is this one about How to Pee in Switzerland.
April won Expat-Blog.com’s blog of the month in September 2009 and at the time described the place where she now lives in the following manner…..
“La Clusaz and the surrounding villages are very Savoyarde, which means they’re mostly closed to non-locals: it takes three generations in their graves before a family is considered local here. So, it’s a very traditional place: farming and cheesemaking rule all year ’round, while the farmers put up with the tourists here to walk in the mountains in summer and here to ski in winter. It’s pretty in every season, and especially fun in winter when everything is covered in snow. My job is unrelated to the area: I’m a production editor for a dairy industry publication, and this is what pays my bills, along with smaller writing jobs. My love of words extends to unpaid work: I’ve written one novel, and I will start the next one when I find an agent for the first. I also have my blog.”
Le Franco Phoney is well worth a quick dive into, take my word for it.
All the best
