Tom Cupples’ Riviera Blog - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
Tom Cupples’ Riviera Blog is the blog of, surprisingly enough, Tom Cupples, a Scotsman who lives in the wonderful village of Tourrettes Sur Loup 25 minutes inland from the hustle and bustle of the Cote d’Azur resorts of Nice and Cannes.
The postings range from The Logic of the French (where Tom attempts to work out how his son can get his moped to the test centre so that he can pass his test so that he can legally drive his moped on the road to the test centre….) Well, it’s probably better if you read that in Tom’s own words.
There is the obligatory post about The Difference Between Men and Women which is followed up with a tribute to Sir Bobby Robson.
For anyone of the female persuasion, Sir Bobby was a Football Manager (American visitors, read… Soccer Manager) who was prone to saying silly things like….
“He’s very fast and if he gets a yard ahead of himself nobody will catch him.”
and
“We didn’t underestimate them, but they were a lot better than we thought”
Anyway, back to the blog. Wood Wars is the story of friendly neighbourliness in the South of France. Friendly neighbourliness in the Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources way, that is!
Death at Dinner is all about a dinner invitation and a dead man in the next room and Unique in France explains that crisp sandwiches aren’t normal fare in the South of France!
The obligatory post about French customer service (The Fawlty Pergola) is witty and amusing and Lavander is all about that purple stuff that is liked by old great aunts and other people of the female persuasion (although most old great aunts are probably also of the female persuasion; it’s just they stopped looking like it about 30 years ago!)
According to Tom, The French are Revolting – I’m not sure that’d I’d entirely agree with that but I do sympathise with Tom’s love song to La Prefecture…. Again!
If you’ve ever wonder what life was like for an ex-IBM employee who happened to be born in that wet and cold country north of Manchester United and Liverpool, take a look at Tom Cupples’ Riviera Blog – you’ll have a good laugh, you may learn something about Glasgow Rangers (whoever they are?) and maybe even enjoy a drop of Beaujolais Nouveau.
All the best
