A Slice of ExPat(é) - Pays de la Loire
A Slice of ExPat(é) is Stu’s blog about his life with his wife Syb, their three children and Shelia (Syb’s mum.)
Stu (and family) run the Chantes des Oiseaux Gites and Campsite and A Slice of ExPat(é) is full of well thought out snippets taken from his life.
He writes intelligently about integration – take a look at… The Bistro Bus and Integrating Slowly.
The depth of Stu (and family’s) own integration can be seen by posts such as… Adieu Gérard Douaire. Notre ami, et bon voisin, Sad News and Just what is it with France?
By the way, the last post has a lovely picture of some lovely Parasol mushrooms – take a peek if it won’t spoil your dinner!
The obligatory 2CV post on this blog is slightly different to normal.
2CVs with a difference is all about 2CVs without wheels.
Now, I know that removing the wheels from a 2CV isn’t going to have much of an effect on its top speed – 2CVs don’t really have a top speed - they’re not that sort of car.
These ones though seem to be going rather fast!
The mushrooming post Champignon de Mouliherne! (it’s the post about mushrooms that makes a Life in France blog stand out from the crown – in my humble opinion) is well written and only fails because it doesn’t give the exact Tom-Tom co-ordinates as to where the best mushrooms can be found. I find that a lot of posts about mushrooms suffer in the same respect.
Being a Yorkshire man, Stu takes Life in France seriously.
Actually, I don’t know that being a Yorkshireman makes any difference at all (other than being naturally rather good at Cricket – which probably isn’t an awful lot of use in the Loire), but I just thought I’d mention that he is one.
Anyway; Yorkshireman or not, Stu manages to talk about the most important thing about Life in France (or anywhere, in my humble opinion)… Food, Glorious Food!
Equally important in anyone’s life is Wine (Wine being food – just in a liquid form!) and Stu goes into some detail in this post where he explains that Dégustation is not a dirty word… Quite right too!
Talking of food (were we talking of food? Now that makes a change….), the glimpse of Saumur Market had me salivating somewhat and I was delighted to see that the strangely named The eels in the bath go round & round, round & round….all together now! was, in fact, all about eels in a bath!
You should really dive in yourself to find out more. Personally, I’d wait until the eels were out of the bath but… that’s just me!
In the meantime, It’s a Lovely Day for It and so I’ll leave you to investigate A Slice of ExPat(é) on your own.
All the best
