Paris and Beyond - Paris
You know, I was going to wait a lot longer before reviewing Paris and Beyond.
Unfortunately, temptation has got the better of me and I’ve had to give in and review it now.
It’s still a very young blog but, even so, it is already full of interesting posts.
Now, I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again…. I like photoblogs and I also like blogs about Paris.
Paris and Beyond is Genie’s blog. Genie says of herself… “Paris reached out and grabbed me when I was 8 years old and it only took me 40 years to actually get there! I love Paris, its people, its architecture and all of France.”
Well, that’s nice. I can’t imagine people feeling the same way about Bognor (or Basingstoke, even?)
I’ll start of by asking the pertinent question; the one every visitor to her blog must have asked themselves….
Does Genie have a thing for men in uniform?
Well, the evidence would suggest that she does!
You only have to look at Inspection for Bastille Day to see what Genie has been inspecting!
Aren’t those pom-poms cute?
And Il est très sérieux shows how seriously Genie takes her Men in Uniform fetish!
I wonder what she thinks of Little Nicky, seen in Hail to the Chief! (obviously standing on a box) surrounded by even more men in uniform!
Food! If food be the music of love, let’s tuck in…..
Now, as we all know all about Pain au Chocolat! The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast. What kind of Pain au Chocolat? The sort that Genie pigs out on in Pain au Chocolat – tu en veux?
Well, if you like patisserie give ‘em a try sometime. I can’t usually get ‘em myself because my girlfriend’s on a diet which pretty much makes me a dieter. But I do love the taste of a good Pain au Chocolat. Mm-mm-mm. You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France?
A périgourdin, that’s what it’s called.
Actually, I just made that last bit up but…. I do believe that you can find out exactly what a périgourdin is if you pop down to Maison Kayser (the Artisan Boulanger on rue Monge), and go up to the counter and say.. “Miam-miam!“
It’s worth a try, anyway!
And, you know, there’s a prize waiting here at the International Head Office of A Taste of Garlic for anyone brave enough to do just that!
The Essential Paris Stuff…..
But surely, I hear you ask yourself, shouldn’t a Paris blog have lots of stuff about Citroen 2CVs, Lingerie and Dog Poop?
Exactement, je me dis!
So, it was rather a shock to find that Paris and Beyond doesn’t reference any of these subjects!
Of course, it’s not all bad news!
In Hung out to Dry we get a glimpse of someone’s privates. I’m not sure if they’re Genie’s; I can’t quite picture her wearing red checkered boxer shorts (but, then again, you never know…)
And, in Marché Alimentaire we do get to see a really rather trendy three wheeler! Not quite my shade of pink, I do have to admit but… I do like the Pooh helmet!
And that’s the closest we get to a poo reference in this blog, unfortunately.
Still, there’s always an Orange Scooter to cheer us up! I wonder who that belongs to?
Taking them from behind…..
As well as her Men in Uniform fetish, Genie seems to be quite keen on Taking them from Behind!
Photos, I mean.
Paparazzo or pervertita? You tell me!
Notice how she keeps her distance from this one on the Quai Malaquais? Is he the spy… or is she?
And here she gets up close for that classic bum shot… It Must be a French Girl…. with skinny black pants on skinny long legs?
And what’s this? More food?
Well, we are in France, after all!
We could start off by visiting the Paris Market at Place Maubert and enjoying some delicious galettes from a young man who is carefully making a point of not wearing a uniform – has he heard about Genie, do you think?
Then we could hike over to the Boulangerie St Louis (you know the one – the one on the on Ile Saint Louis) and grab a Baguette or two!
But you know, I’ll have to stop making childish and immature references to Genie’s fetishes or she’ll say… “No Crêpes for You!”
And that would be a shame, wouldn’t it?
The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast….
Now, I really wasn’t going to mention this. I tried to resist the temptation but it was just too tempting…
I read through the comments, I read through the comments twice, I went out and mucked out the pigs and then I read through the comments one last time and just had to pass on Genie’s Paris Travel Tip!
This is what she has for breakfast?
And I thought I lived the fast life?
There’s only one thing I can say…. “Mmmm! Goddamn, Genie! This is some serious gourmet shit! Usually, me and Mrs Taste of Garlic would be happy with some freeze-dried Taster’s Choice coffee for breakfast, but you spring this serious GOURMET shit on us! What flavor is this?”
So, summing up…….
Although Paris and Beyond is still a very young blog it has already taken off in quite a big way.
For a blog that’s only 5 weeks and 5 days old (we’re nothing if not precise here at A Taste of Garlic), it already has 40 followers and 37 posts.
There’s a sort of maturity to the photos and prose that go to make up this blog.
None of those silly articles about Drowning in Dog Poop that you find in so many Paris blogs these days!
I haven’t mentioned La Fontaine Médicis – a quiet place or La Fête de la Musique – un quartet de jazz partly because I’m running out of time and partly because I’m still astounded at that serious gourmet breakfast stuff!
And, even if there is a slight lack of posts about nuns driving Citroen 2CVs (or riding VeloSolexes, even), there’s still good reason to pay a visit to Paris and Beyond and learn about some of the other things that happen in Paris and Beyond.
And me? Well, I’ve spotted a bottle of wine that might just quench my thirst. I’ll get the wine glasses, do you think you could get the mango and passion fruit ravioli dessert to go?
All the best

Merci beaucoup, Keith! I have been saving the dog poop stories although I did make a reference in the “Quelle est la température?” to not stepping in any. (meh!) Oh, and I have a lingerie photo that I was saving just to pay hommage (suck up) to you!
You do a wonderful service to bloggers with your reviews and I greatly appreciate the attention you have given my blog. Keep reading because I have some good stories coming up this week. (wink)
À bientôt!

Oh, I’m getting excited now!
Do you mean that you managed to snap the lingerie wearing nuns in that blue 2CV?
I’m waiting with bated breath (and admit to getting slightly congested in the below the belt area!)
All the best

Well you couldn’t have picked a better baby blog to review Keith. I was sitting right beside her when she “birthed” that baby so I think that makes me kin! May I add that galavanting around Paris with Genie is even more fun than her blog?? She does a great job with photography and speaks French like a pro, which comes in handy when I’m at a loss for words, well French words!

PS, for the record that’s NOT my orange scooter. If I am going to zip around Paris on one, which I am NOT, it will be Paris rouge!

Virgina – it’s well known that Red scooters go faster! Same for motorbikes (although some black ones can be rather fast?)

Keith, to answer your question, “yes” just as they were stepping in caca de chien. (just kidding!)
Virginia is a very generous and sincere person who makes friends wherever she goes and no matter how she speaks the language! Together we are “Trouble” with a capital “T”! Well, trouble and fun with lots of laughing thrown it for good measure!

Genie….
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; All you Paris Girlies are Mad, Bad and Trouble! You’re just more of all of it when you get together! Why do you think I hide away in deepest rural Brittany when I review Paris blogs?
All the best
