An Alien Parisienne - Paris

paris An Alien Parisienne because we all love reading blogs about life in FranceAn Alien Parisienne is Paris Karin’s blog which, to use her own words…

“is an attempt to document Paris from my perspective as an alien Parisienne (not in the “native” sense, but the “residential” one).

I am an American chick who has found herself a resident of Paris and feeling alien each and every day. I lead a gluten-free, rather solitary existence in the cultural capital of the world: Paris.”

Well, now we know that, let’s see what we can find of interest in Karin’s blog.

I suppose I should have taken Karin’s advice and started with A Beginning of Something but I didn’t.

Instead, I threw caution to the wind and dived into the lengthy and very interesting The Writer’s Altar, a Parisian Leafy Mess, and Dog Poo.

This one post is a perfect synopsis of Karin’s blog (although most of her other posts are shorter), and details the writing process (the Billy Holiday in the background is pretty essential, in my opinion) and the fetishistic requirements of the would be writer (so many vary from writer to writer and, frighteningly, so many the same!)

The post goes on to describe aspects of Paris, seen from an apartment window.  This isn’t the Paris of a tourist; this isn’t for the guide books.  Collection of clothes for the needy, cleaning the leaves off the streets; bicycles and a slight obsession about another blogger (who is a writer as well.)

There’s a depth of detail here that many bloggers would try to avoid.  Karin doesn’t:Brave stuff!

The post finishes with the obligatory Life in Paris blog dog poo post.  This one is rather longer and more detailed than most; and rather funny too!

I’d better stop there or else I’ll take 6,000 words to describe what Karin took 6,000 words to write!

The next post I looked at was Hodge-Podge and, blow me, this was as long, if not longer than the last one!

I do have to say, full of good stuff.  It roams from The Oscars to Zelda Scott Fitzgerald and touches pretty much everywhere else in between!  Well worth reading but, my advice would be to open a bottle of wine and take your time.

Much in the same area would be Ghetto Living in Paris, Part 1 which covers pretty much every aspect of living in Paris and manages to throw in some strangely shaped pears, as well.

The last blog post that I’ll talk about is Back to the Blog & Christmas Lights.  Some wonderful photos, a bit about Colette and not quite as long as the previous posts.  In fact, when Karin says… To Conclude, she only takes an additional 696 words to do so!

All blogs are different; thank goodness for that.

An Alien Parisienne won’t be to everyone’s taste but it certainly is to mine.

Sometimes I fancy a quick beer and sometimes I want to linger over a glass of port.

An Alien Parisienne is a blog to read slowly and savour; sat in a comfortable armchair rather than propping up the bar.

All the best

Aw, Keith, this is the bomb! Thank you so much for writing up about An Alien Parisienne. You are dead on with this description: “All blogs are different; thank goodness for that.

Another of my internet-become-real-life-friends likens my blogging style to coming into the “Introspective Café” where I serve up leisurely meals, not fast food. I cook and serve up what I need to as a person and a writer with the “ingredients” at the forefront of my mind, and invite anyone who wants to to come in and partake, eating as much or as little as he or she wants, and staying for as long as he or she desires. What I serve up is not always what everyone wants to eat, but those that are into it seem to really enjoy it. I appreciate your picking up on this, too. :)

    Thank you, again, Keith!
