Le Log Lillois - Nord-Pas-de-Calais

nord pas de calais Le Log Lillois because we all love reading blogs about life in FranceLe Log Lillois is Peter Newman-Legros’ blog about life in Lille.  Peter’s blog deserves a mention here for at least three of the following reasons….

1).  He has written an intelligent and witty post about the greatest Rock star of all time; I speak of non other that The European Elvis, The  Crooner with Chutzpah, The Real Royal in France, The Souverain… The one and only Johnny Hallyday!  More details to be found at… Can a King commit treason?

2).  Another post details one of my favourite dishes… Moules, moules, moules….  I guess Peter likes them as well as he mentioned them thrice!

3).  To top it all, he mentions another of my favourite dishes… choucroute aux fruits de mer – or, as he puts it… Fish ‘n cabbage.   I had this a couple of years ago at le Di’vin at Vannes (an excellent seafood restaurant just outside the fish market: we chose it after asking some of the fishmongers in the market where was the best place to go.)  Fish and cabbage is an excellent dish and it’s inclusion on Peter’s blog raises the blog to the heights of gastronomy.

4).   Peter admits that he’s in love wiz zer veecar of deeblay! No, what right thinking man isn’t?

5).  Peter is prepared to come out of the closet and admit that he has a Favourite Pair of Flip Flops! Now, I happen to like Flip Flops as well (also sandals but I won’t mention that horrible perversion here!) – I do concur with Peter that (and I’ll use his words), one thing I do not like is to see men wearing flipflops around town. No idea why not but to me they look plain wrong. DON’T DO IT!!

Now, any three of those posts would be enough to get a review at A Taste of Garlic (Oh, dear.  Am I giving away trade secrets – forget you heard that!) but, there were plenty more interesting posts to choose from.

You can follow Peter taking some Natural Prozac in the south of France and then listen to his views on Myleene Klass (who I do have to admit I’ve never heard of though she does look like she might be one of the great Johnny Hallyday’s backing singers and, if she isn’t, perhaps she ought to be?)

Don’t make the mistake I made and get all excited when you read England 4 – Germany 1 – it’s not about football after all.  I really should have know better as it’s been a million years since England beat anyone 4-1 (apart from Albania, and they don’t really count!)  By the way, I haven’t forgotten the 5-1 drubbing we gave to Germany in the 2001 World Cup qualifiers – how could any Englishman forget that!  It’s just that I don’t think that I’ll live long enough to see that ever happen again (or am I just bitter and twisted out football these days?)

And finally , Peter mentions that he watches the bestest soap on French TV (think of Eastends in the South of France but with no spotty people and no fake East End accents either…) Plus Belle La Vie http://plus-belle-la-vie.france3.fr/

Peter  has achieved what must be most self respecting expat’s wish… to sit at table whilst eating Pizza but not missing the goings on at Le Mistral!

But all this talking is making me hungry (now that’s not usual!!! )  So, you take a good look around Le Log Lillois and, for me,  In the Meantime… more nosh!

All the best
