Blogging tips for people who use Blogger
Now, I may be the world’s worst blogger (I think I hold the world record for being the world’s worst at the most things) but there are a few things that I have learned along the way.
And, as I got 28 blogs in front of me and can’t decide which of them to feature today, I thought I’d give up and pass on some of my hints and tips to you instead.
These tips are specific for bloggers who use Blogger (blogspot.com)….
1). Remove the Navbar at the top of the screen.
Although Blogger makes blogging easy, the Navbar at the top of the screen can detract from the professional look that you may wish to give to your blog or website.
To remove the Navbar, all you have to do is insert some code into your template. This is easy if you follow these instructions….
1). From your Blogger DashBoard, choose the Settings option for your blog/website.
2). Choose the Layout Tab and then click on the Edit HTML option (you may want to back up your template first – always a good idea!)
3). Now insert the following line of code into the template Immediately above the line that reads… body {
#navbar-iframe {height:0px;visibility:hidden;display:none;}
4). Save the template and view your blog – the NavBar will have disappeared.
2). Static Top Post in Blogger?
Although Blogger is very easy to use, many people would like to have a post that always stays at the top of the blog – a sort of Welcome Post.
This is easy to do – all you need to do is create your Welcome Post and publish it. Then go back into that post (as though to edit it), go to Post Options and change the Posting Date and Time to some arbitrary date well into the future. Try something like 31st December 2012?
3). Your own FavIcon for your blog?
![]()
The FavIcon is the Orange and White icon (as seen to the left) that automatically appears on your blog.
You can change for free this by going to another of my sites – FavIcons4Free.com and following the instructions or (with substantially less choice of icons) follow the instructions below….
You will need to edit the Template of your Blogger blog.
1). From your Blogger DashBoard, choose the Settings option for your blog/website.
2). Choose the Layout Tab and then click on the Edit HTML option (you may want to back up your template first – always a good idea!)
3). Choose the FavIcon that you want from the ones displayed below.
4). Now insert the line of code associated with that Favicon into the template Just Below the line that reads… <head>
As Below…
<head>
<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”http://www.aTasteOfGarlic.com/favicons/favicon01.ico”>
<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
Please note that the code that you insert will be different from the code above – unless you have chosen the same FavIcon as me; in this case, the green frog.
Save your template file
Once this is done, you will need to refresh your browser and your favicon should appear.
The 12 Favicons I have arranged for you are listed below. If you want any specific Favicon that isn’t shown, please let me know and I’ll set it up for you.

Obviously, for a greater range of favicons, you could take a look at FavIcons4Free.com and following the instructions there.

I shall have a go at this…but how do I back up my template?
Warning, you have a real numbskull here as my blog layout will testify.
