A gardening life in Brittany - Brittany
Sometimes I wonder if I’m biased towards Brittany blogs?
Sometimes I think it’s the other way round and I spend too much time perusing the blogs of those naughty, mad, bad people who live in Paris (I am speaking generally and I do know that there are always exceptions to every rule and NOT EVERYONE who lives in Paris is naughty, mad or bad.)
And, for the sake of Geographic Democracy I often consider spending more time looking for new blogs in Provence or Poitou-Charentes or the Pyrénées even?
All of which is meant as a reservedly non-apologetic introduction to A gardening life in Brittany which, in case you hadn’t guessed by now, is a Brittany Blog!
In the beginning….
A gardening life in Brittany is Trevor and Jan’s blog. Trevor and Jan moved out to Brittany in 2004 and, after buying the wrong house, managed to not only sell it but also buy the right house at Lezardrieux which came in the form of a ‘fishermans’ cottage close to the River Trieux.
The cottage was a small two up two down place with only 500 sq m of land but they could see the potential.
5 years later they started working as gardeners, bought their neighbouring field and turned part of it into a garden and the largest part is divided into willow beds, erected a shed garage and a chalet, bought a camping car and drove down to Morocco, and in 2008/9 built an extension to their house!
Trevor and Jan keep 5 hens and have a regular supply of eggs from them. They work as gardeners and have a healthy mixture of French and English clients.
From 2010, they are renting out Ty Guen as a holiday let. Visit their website for more details at www.tyguen.com
Down by the river….
I’ve got to say, there are some fantastic photos of the river on this blog.
As usual, you do need to click on them to see them at their best.
Perhaps start with the three lovely photos to be found Down by the river and then move on to The Highest Tide.
Isn’t that photo of Treiux in Mist lovely?
You know, I could take lovely photographs like that if only I wasn’t such a crap photographer!
I’m Hungry! Where’s the nosh?
Well, how about we start with a nice glass of Elderflower Cordial before tucking into a massive Seafood BBQ!
Doesn’t that look yummy?
That would be the sort of thing I’d order for my last meal; should I ever get caught doing anything that warrants the death penalty!
This is a gardening blog…..
Yes, of course it is, and it’s only right that there a few articles about gardening.
Now, I’m not as keen on actually growing anything as I am on cooking or eating whatever anyone else has grown but I do like Wild Primroses.
I like roses too but no one has ever accused me of Smelling Like a Rose!
And isn’t that a lovely photo of a Gertrude Jekyll?
You know, I could take lovely photographs like that if only I could work out how to connect my Box Brownie to the computer!
And I suppose that if you are earning a living as a gardener, there are worse places to work than By the River.
So, summing up…
If you like Brittany (and who doesn’t), you really should make a point of popping down to A gardening life in Brittany and have a good look round.
There are some lovely photos and lots of other good things too.
And me? Well, I’m going to take A Day Off and check out the New Additions.
All the best

As one of those “naughty, mad, bad people who live in Paris” (je le suis, et je l’assume!)I do appreciate these views into more rural locales. The more the better. Keep up the good work, Keith!
And yes, the seafood BBQ looks * fantastic*!

“naughty, mad, bad people who live in Paris” – it’s probably Karin’s influence?
