First Steps is a slow moving but still rather exciting blog all about Simon and Angela’s leap to a life in France.
Angela says this of her blog…. “Simon works for Sainsbury’s as a Department Manager has a multi-million pound turn over annually on his department and works all hours God sends. I am Events Monkey. I call myself that, as my actual title is unknown!! Just responsible for any event, function, conference, meeting etc.,etc., that happens on the campus where I work. I’d be better being called an Events Elephant, as I’m paid peanuts and expected to work all hours known to man. This is the tale of how we decided to take the massive step to living a totally different life. Selling our home in England and moving to a fantastic little village in the Auvergne, including some of our adventures along the way.”
I’ve been following the blog for a while and even though its only had 24 post since April 2009, every post has been well worth reading and I do have to admit that I’m quite a fan!
Now, this is only going to be a mini-review because I’m going to wait until Simon and Angela are more settled before I do a proper review of them.
The blog starts on April Fools Day in 2009.
Then, in May, in the post entitled Got room for a bag lady? we see what it is that Simon and Angela have bought and, more importantly, what sort of car Angela is thinking of getting.
Towards the end of May The First Fly in the Ointment appears.
Luckily Miss Marple (as Simon calls Angela) finds a way around the problem of re-tiling the roof of their house.
And then, in August, they are at Step Two – No longer a two home family when they sell their house in the U.K.
In one of the longest blog posts I have ever read, in July 2010 Angela states We have a ROOF!! and they certainly do!
And even though Angela is sleeping in a tent (at risk of having her toes bitten off by rats), work is moving along quite nicely!
Even if, as The Last Post of 2010 shows, there is still a little bit of work to be done?
I have to admit that I like the Warts and All aspects and outlook on this blog.
Simon and Angela aren’t throwing money into their renovation, they’re throwing themselves.
And that, in my opinion, may turn out to be the far wiser investment?
Why don’t you wander down to the Auvergne and check out how work is progressing at First Steps
And leave a comment to say hello, if you like what you see.
I’ll certainly be popping in from time to time – after all, there’s the Fosse Septique drama/story still to come!
All the best
